Structural and dynamic properties of colloids near jamming transition

چکیده
Molecular dynamics simulations were used to study the jamming transitions occurring in colloidal dispersions interacting through a short-ranged van der Waals attraction and a longer-ranged electrostatic repulsion as represented by the classical Derjaguin– Landau–Verwey–Overbeek (DLVO) theory. The structural and dynamics properties near the jamming transition were investigated at various parameters leading to the dynamic arrest. The structural investigations revealed that at low-volume fractions, aggregation of particles lead to chain-like clusters and the gel-like structures were formed due to the caging effects. We demonstrated that following the behavior of any of the dynamical properties was sufficient to deduce the jamming phase diagram as all of them showed a critical-like behavior at the onset o g ©

Statistical Physics of the Jamming Transition: The Search for Simple Models
We investigate universal features of the jamming transition in granular materials, colloids and glasses. We show that the jamming transition in these systems has common features: slowing of response to external perturbation, and the onset of structural heterogeneities.

The study of mechanical behavior of the structural steel S400 under quasi- static and dynamic loading has been the subject of this investigation. In oder to obtain different stress - triaxiality conditions the specimens were notched with 1, 1.5, 2 and 3.5 mm notch radius. The results of fractography show as the velocity of tension increases, ductility reduces and a ductile-brittle transition oc...
متن کاملGlasslike kinetic arrest at the colloidal-gelation transition.
We show that gelation of weakly attractive colloids is remarkably similar to the colloidal glass transition. Like the glass transition, dynamic light scattering functions near gelation scale with scattering vector, and exhibits a two-step decay with a power-law divergence of the final decay time. Like the glass transition, static light scattering does not change upon gelation. These results sug...
متن کاملRheology of soft colloids across the onset of rigidity: scaling behavior, thermal, and non-thermal responses.
We study the rheological behavior of colloidal suspensions composed of soft sub-micron-size hydrogel particles across the liquid-solid transition. The measured stress and strain-rate data, when normalized by thermal stress and time scales, suggest our systems reside in a regime wherein thermal effects are important. In a different vein, critical point scaling predictions for the jamming transit...

Assemblies of purely repulsive and frictionless particles, display very curious elastic properties near the jamming transition where the overlap between particles vanish. Although such systems do not contain the long and cross-linked polymeric chains characterizing a rubber, they behave macroscopically in a similar way: the shear modulus G can become negligible in comparison with the bulk modul...
